Morecambe proudly hosted another incredible edition of Baylight, the town’s much-
loved light art trail and community parade. Taking place on February 21st and 22nd,
Baylight ’25 brought together thousands of visitors who were treated to a
spectacular celebration of art, light, and sound – an event that continues to grow
year on year.

Morecambe Business Improvement District (Morecambe BID), one of the event's
major sponsors for the third consecutive year, shared glowing praise for this year’s
success and its impact on the town. Baylight has consistently proven to be a vital
date in the winter calendar, showcasing the very best of Morecambe under the glow
of its mesmerising lights.

David Waddington, Chair of Morecambe BID, expressed his pride in this year’s
achievements, saying, “I would like to congratulate the Baylight team for another
fantastic event again this year. There’s no doubt it is a fantastic advertisement for
Morecambe and continues to draw incredible crowds. The parade in particular was
a tremendous spectacle of light and sound, with the incredible backdrop of a
Morecambe sunset. What more could we have asked for?”

The event featured a stunning parade led by Samba Espirito, with the standout
Morecambe BID-sponsored Giant Whale exhibit capturing the imagination of
attendees of all ages. The town’s independent venues and local businesses
enjoyed significant trade boosts across both evenings, as David highlighted, “It was
great to see our town full of people having a wonderful time, and all of our venues
enjoying a significant swell in trade.”

Baylight

Baylight ’25 wasn’t just about economic benefits—it underscored Morecambe’s
unique community spirit. The illuminated light trail along the Promenade turned the
town into a glowing masterpiece, with visitors exploring works by local, national,
and international artists. Beyond Radio added to the vibrant atmosphere with a live
outside broadcast hosted at Miogelato, building on the event’s carnival vibe.
Reflecting on the event’s growing importance, David added, “Events like Baylight
help significantly to attract visitors for overnight stays rather than just day trips.
Spread across two nights, Baylight ’25 gave local businesses an early-season
boost and encouraged more people to discover Morecambe as a destination for
short breaks.”

Thanks to the team and volunteers

Morecambe BID expressed its heartfelt thanks to the Baylight team and the tireless
efforts of volunteers who made the event possible, with special mention given to
Sian Johnson, Chair of Morecambe Sparkle. “There is a huge amount of work in
organising this event, so I would like to express our thanks to the Morecambe
Sparkle team and all their helpers and volunteers. Sian works tirelessly as the
nucleus and driving force of the event—thank you, Sian!”

This year’s Baylight also saw a road closure on Saturday evening, providing a safe
and more inclusive experience as visitors strolled Marine Road to access the
installations and businesses. The collaboration among event organisers,
businesses, and the community has cemented Baylight’s reputation as an
unmissable festival in Morecambe’s cultural calendar.

Celebration of art, community, and Morecambe’s unique charm.

David concluded with an enthusiastic note, “Well done, team Baylight! We look
forward to next year and to supporting another transformational event for our town.”
Baylight ’25 has once again proven that Morecambe shines brightest, even in the
depths of winter. From the parade’s vibrant energy to the ambient glow of the light
art trail, it was an unforgettable celebration of art, community, and Morecambe’s
unique charm.
