Visit Morecambe and Lancaster

Morecambe on video and film. Every since the birth of film, Morecambe has appeared larger than life on the big screen and continues to do so this day. The early Victorian filmmakers started experimenting with a new medium by filming. Originally these films were mainly based on the thousands of holidaymakers taking in the sea air. However, they were later followed by professional feature length films such as Brief Encounter (Carnforth Station), and The Entertainer starring Sir Laurence Olivier.

Later TV became the new medium and TV plays and programmes were made (Sunset Across The Bay by Alan Bennet, and Poirot). Now modern productions are still being made (The Bay). Our local area is a natural amphitheatre has a magical allure that perfectly allows the magic of the area to be portrayed cinematically. Of course, the background of the Lake District and Morecambe’s world-class sunsets add to the attraction as a natural filming environment.

Modern day

Indeed, Morecambe BID has been captured by the magic of Morecambe and the area and have commissioned video productions to get the message out.  Additionally, BID has produced a series of  videos promoting the opportunities available for people looking for work in the area.  Recently, others have been captivated with our offering and, after a long search, the Eden Project chose Morecambe. Furthermore, it’s only Eden’s second project in the United Kingdom but it’s based on the ‘Rhythms of the Bay’. Eden Project Morecambe is not a replica of Cornwall in any way, shape or form.

With the advent of drone usage, photography and video has enabled a new generation of filmmakers to discover Morecambe and the Bay from the air. Moreover, some of the results are spectacular. Coincidentally, Morecambe BID were one of the first to use this new technology to capture the beauty and tranquillity of the area.
