Know how to ‘float to live’

If you find yourself in difficulty in the water:
 Lie on your back like a starfish.
 Tilt your head back with ears submerged.
 Relax and try to control your breathing.
 Use your hands to help you stay afloat.
 It’s OK if your legs sink, we all float differently.

If you need help

Ring 999 and ask for the coastguard if you need assistance or see anyone else in distress.

Safety aids

If you are going in or on the water always wear a personal floatation device (lifejacket or buoyancy aid).
